"...just for fun, for a laugh, haha..."

Since 2007 when I first saw the Wes Anderson short film Hotel Chevalier, a prologue to The Darjeeling Limited, I've had the theme song "Where Do You Go To My Lovely," by Peter Sarstedt, playing non-stop in my head. Clearly, it must be something special if its been in my head for this long, so I've decided to share it with you, youcanthankmelater. I've sung the lyrics time and time again, be it shower or subway (quietly, yes quietly,) but prior to this blog, names like Zizi Jeanmarie and places such as Juan-les-Pines, never actually meant a thing to me. Well if your having the same curiosities I had then you sureashell lucked out, I have done the dirty work for you.

"You talk like Marlene Dietrich
And you dance like Zizi Jeanmaire
Your clothes are all made by Balmain
And there's diamonds and pearls in your hair
You live in a fancy appartement
Of the Boulevard of St. Michel
Where you keep your Rolling Stones records
And a friend of Sacha Distel

But where do you go to my lovely
When you're alone in your bed
Tell me the thoughts that surround you
I want to look inside your head

I've seen all your qualifications
You got from the Sorbonne
And the painting you stole from Picasso
Your loveliness goes on and on, yes it does
When you go on your summer vacation
You go to Juan-les-Pines
With your carefully designed topless swimsuit
You get an even suntan, on your back and on your legs
When the snow falls you're found in St. Moritz
With the others of the jet-set
And you sip your Napoleon Brandy
But you never get your lips wet

But where do you go to my lovely
When you're alone in your bed
Tell me the thoughts that surround you
I want to look inside your head, yes I do

Your name is heard in high places
You know the Aga Khan
He sent you a racehorse for chistmas
And you keep it just for fun, for a laugh haha
They say that when you get married
It'll be to a millionaire
But they don't realize where you came from
And I wonder if they really care, they give a damn

But where do you go to my lovely
When you're alone in your bed
Tell me the thoughts that surround you
I want to look inside your head

I remember the back streets of Naples
Two children begging in rags
Both touched with a burning ambition
To shake off their lowly brown tags, yes they try
So look into my face Marie-Claire
And remember just who you are
Then go and forget me forever
'Cause I know you still bearthe scar, deep inside, yes you do

I know where you go to my lovely
When you're alone in your bed
I know the thoughts that surround you
'Cause I can look inside your head"

"Dearly Beloved. We are gathered here today to get through this thing called life."

Thinking about the idea of settling down? Heres some food for thought...

My reasoning for blogging about this topic may appear to come from a bitter standpoint, but I can assure you its not. From being a Sociology major, literally studying insane amounts of marriage and divorce statistics, and asking friends and family (single, married, or divorced) their opinions I feel confident that it is better to wait until you are a bit older, and shall we say wiser, to say "I do."

Although I do want to settle down, get married, and have a family I've always told myself that I want to wait until I'm around thirty to do so. For me a big part of it is that I know that people change drastically from the time when they are experiencing their twenties till the time they thirty-ish. That being said, plus many other reasons, I'd say wait, get through your twenties and marry near thirty. I'm sure some of you aren't going to agree with me and thats entirely okay, but if you are thinking of taking that big step, or not, I encourage you to read the following articles:

Liberty and Justice for...some.

Usually when we think of a role model we picture someone older and wiser than us. Today I found a story that changed my idea of a role model, someone I look up to.

At West Fork Elementary School in Arkansas, 10 year old Will Phillips stood up for what he believes in, and exercised his rights as an American. The student has been refusing to recite the Pledge of Allegiance because he feels that there isn't actually "liberty and justice for all." Phillips told the media that he will not recite the pledge until there are equal rights for gays and lesbians.

I think its amazing that this 10 year old has the awareness and strength to be controversial and really stick to defending gay and lesbian rights, while many adults couldnt be bothered. Will Phillips truly is a role model.

Also, while youre there, participate in the poll asking "Should students be allowed to abstain from reciting the Pledge of Allegiance?" The results are not what you'd think.

Hip, Hip, Hooray Hipster!

Okay, so you're BK living, L train loving and all is going well. You're "fitting-in" almost perfectly even though you'd never admit it since you are such an "individual" [elegantly disheveled in your vintage flannel, beat-up converse, ray-bans, and skinniest jeans] BUT theres still one thing missing from your picturesque vision of how it would all go: a MUSTACHE, of course! Blame on it what you want--- not producing enough testosterone, being a girl, whattteeevvvveeerrrr! Well dry your little mopey eyes my darling hipsters, I found the solution. Oh, and heres an extra treat while I'm feeling so generous...if you're amused by hipsters or mustaches, or hipsters in mustaches then heres the place for you.

Get In Sync

If you say you're not a fan of Justin Timberlake it's safe to assume that you are lying, but only to yourself. After all, who doesn't love a little Justin now and then? So if you're a fan of JT, [which don't kid yourself youclearlyare] then you'll appreciate this...
